Greetings for 2009!

I hope everyone had a great holiday and survived the snow!   My greatest gift arrived when I looked out the window and saw the ground for the first time in almost 2 weeks.  Altho we were prepared with water tank heaters, propane and a fully fueled generator, the commute to work, the store, post office, etc...  rattled my nerves!  It was great fun dragging my son on the inner tube behind my quad & the white Christmas was beautiful as well!  But all in all, I am glad to see the snow gone!

Whats New!   Several things are new for 2009!

Saturdays will still offer the great class schedule with the addition of Novice Horse Classes.  These classes will be open to horses that have not won 3 first place ribbons at the start of the series (not to include halter).  They are eligible to ride in this category for the entire series, even if they win three firsts during the course of the series.  HOWEVER, after winning three first in the current series, they will not be eligible for the Novice category the next series.

Sundays show list has changes as well!  The equitation classes will again have patterns, however, they will be open to English or Western equipment and attire.  "Green Horse & Rider" classes are offered for that horse or rider that is showing for their 1st year.  Another addition is WAHSET pattern classes that will give the high school equestrian riders a place to practice!  We will again offer a free lunch ticket to every exhibitor on Sunday!  We're working hard to make this work and am hoping you will support the show!

Multiple Sponsor Levels
Pay Online with your Paypal Account!

There are three different levels of sponsorships available!  the Platinum Level offers the most exposure and sponsors the buckles given away at the shows.  Gold and Silver Levels offer great incentives as well!  You can find more information on how to be a sponsor by clicking here

Sponsor Spotlight:

The Washington State Paint Horse Club is one of the first paint horse clubs established in Washington State in 1968 when Howard Yeager was our first club president. Please visit our History Page for an informational look at how Paints got started in WA State. From the first club established in Washington to one of six clubs now, we are still going strong and our membership keeps growing.

WSPHC also takes on many special community service activities during the year - such as supporting the American Legion Food for the Elderly program, the Humane Society, and Equus Sanctuary. Our youth are very active in these activities plus some of their own - such as caroling at a home for Alzheimer patients and putting on clinics for local 4-H clubs. Additionally, we put on our yearly "Star Spangled Classic" Paint Horse Show, hold educational clinics, donate our club's money and our time to worthy community causes.

WSPHC holds monthly meetings which include a social/dinner time, meeting, committee reports and planning time. In August we have a BBQ and Trail Ride and in November we hold "Christmas in November" as part of our Annual Meeting.   For more information visit their website at www.wsphc.com

Open Show Breed Programs – Get On Board!

A lot of you already know about the programs that are offered by most of the major breed associations.  But for those of you who don’t, here is a brief description of what it takes to participate

GET THE MOST FOR YOUR MONEY!

Owning and showing your horse can be expensive!  If you are going to put out the effort you should get the most for your money!  Show usually offer awards for their individual shows, but did you know that if you show a Paint, Pinto, Appy, Morgan or Arabian that the national breed associations will reward your efforts as well?

To get started , go to your association online.  You can look up a lot of them at http://poormanshorseshows.com/breed_programs.htmBe sure to go directly to your Association to confirm the details of participation.  Each program is a little bit different, but the basics are:

1.         1.  Renew your breeds membership
      2.       Sign up for the program
      3.       Submit your placings to the association after every show

At the Poormans shows we can print you a report that gives your placings and how many were in each class.  This is the information you need to submit your results!  At the end of the year the association rewards your efforts!

You can click here to view a list of current leaders with the APHA PAC program.  Most of you will find the names familiar!  My apologies to the people that are showing in other programs.  I’m not a member and don’t have a current list from them!

American Paint Horse Paint Alternative Program  http://www.apha.com/pac/index.html

One of the most widely used programs is offered thru the Paint Horse Association.  This popular program is not only widely used, but many of the leader and past winner showed at the Poormans shows!  Click here to see current leaders in 4 of the categories.

Appaloosa Competitive All-Breed Activities Program  http://appaloosa.com/show/acaap.htm
Are you an active Appaloosa owner? Do you enjoy competing in local competitions such as team penning, cutting, barrel racing, gaming, judged trail riding, hunter or open shows? If your answer is yes, the Appaloosa Horse Club would like to offer you another way to receive recognition for your accomplishments with the Appaloosa Competitive All-Breed Activities Program.

Arabian Horse Open Incentive Program  http://arabianhorses.org/activities/incentiveprograms/
If you're currently riding and competing with Arabian horses outside of the AHA-recognized show circuit, the Arabian Horse Association Incentive Programs are designed for you. Whether your ride dressage or endurance, compete in local open shows or just enjoy getting out and saddling up for a leisurely trail ride, there's a program for you.

Morgan Horse Open Competition Program  http://www.morganhorse.com/benefits/programs_competition.php
The Open Competition Program showcases some of the Morgan breed's best ambassadors, and as a promotional tool, it can't be beat. Surveys show that most new Morgan owners discover the breed though friends and seeing Morgans compete at open events.   Don't let your hard work and success go unnoticed! Whether you are competing for your own accomplishment or to promote your business, if your Morgan is competing against other breeds in open competition, you are invited to join the AMHA Open Competition Program to earn year-end awards.
